I have been banging on about rising land prices and declining trade contractors for over 20 years. But no matter how many articles get written or how many times it gets on the news, nothing changes. Actually things do change – they get worse. On the Research page is a video clip from 1991 warning about the looming land shortage (blocks of land had hit $35,000 each!!) and also a submission I made to a ‘Parliamentary Inquiry into Youth Unemployment’.
I have been in the housing industry for over 35 years (yes, that’s me on a roof 30 years ago). I’ve seen it all. I was National President of the Housing Industry Association and got a glimpse of the bureaucracy that runs the housing industry in Australia. Thousands upon thousands of State and Federal public servants writing thousands and thousands of new rules and regulations. They form an impenetrable barrier that is impossible to break through. The only option is to ‘break with’ the system. Which means political action – just like the Farmers’ Federation did when confronted with a massive threat to their industry.
